In many rural parts of Bahi District, poor sanitation conditions force young adolescent girls to stay home during their menstrual cycles. This leads to a 10% dropout rate at puberty and chronic absenteeism.
We provide water, sanitation, and hygiene (SWASH) training alongside practical menstrual hygiene management (MHM) solutions. We believe dignity is a fundamental right that supports education.
Establishing school-led health clubs that maintain hygiene standards through drama, songs, and peer-to-peer education.
Training teachers and girls to produce safe, local sanitary pads and repurposing existing facilities into private changing rooms.
TASI's mission is to cover all the challenges highlighted by the Ministry of Health in the Bahi district report which indicated a high prevalence of sanitation and hygiene conditions caused by having poor toilets, lack of clean water, lack of hygienic sanitary pads, lack of changing rooms and lack of privacy for adolescent girls in primary schools. We have addressed the component of MHM (hygienic sanitary pads, changing rooms, and privacy for young adolescent girls). Currently, Chali Isangha depends on the traditional pit latrine.
At TASI, our Communicable Diseases Initiative is a vital part of our mission to improve public health in Tanzania. We understand that communicable diseases such as tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS, diarrheal diseases, and malaria can have disturbing impacts on communities, especially in underserved regions. Our initiative is focused on prevention, education, and treatment to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases and improve healthcare access.
Promoting vaccination programs and raising awareness about preventive measures for diseases such as HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, and more.
Strengthening healthcare systems to enhance diagnosis, treatment, and management of communicable diseases.
Conducting outreach programs to educate communities about transmission, prevention, and treatment of communicable diseases.
Our Nutrition in Adolescent Initiative at TASI is dedicated to nurturing adolescents' health and well-being, who represent our communities' future. We understand the pivotal role nutrition plays in their development and overall health. Our initiative focuses on empowering adolescents to make healthy choices and ensuring they have access to nutritious food options.
Implementing programs that educate adolescents about the importance of balanced nutrition and providing them with the knowledge and skills to make healthier dietary choices.
Collaborating with schools to provide nutritious meals and snacks, particularly in underserved areas.
Addressing and advocating for improved access to affordable and healthy food options for adolescents in marginalized communities. We believe in the power of tailored, community-focused nutrition guidance. Our approach goes beyond generic labels like 'protein' or 'carbohydrates.' Instead, we are dedicated to providing practical, locally relevant information that empowers individuals to discover the desirable nutrients hidden within the everyday foods available in their communities.
At TASI, our Down Syndrome Initiative is committed to promoting awareness and acceptance of Down Syndrome in the community while providing advocacy, support services, and quality education for individuals with Down syndrome and their families. We recognize that empowering children and youth with Down Syndrome to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives through the provision of top-quality education is vital for the development of an inclusive and diverse community. We are dedicated to offering compassionate support systems that foster understanding and create a more inclusive community that embraces the diversity and strengths of those with Down Syndrome.
We offer training programs and workshops for educators, healthcare professionals, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance their knowledge and skills in supporting individuals with Down syndrome. This helps to promote inclusive practices and improve access to quality services such as therapy in all forms needed to equip youth with Down syndrome to excel in the community.
We build partnerships and collaboration with relevant organizations, institutions, and stakeholders working in the field of community engagement and Down syndrome. We believe these collaborative efforts can collectively leverage resources, expertise, and networks to overcome Down Syndrome challenges.
We develop sensitization awareness campaigns about societal stigma and prejudice against individuals with Down syndrome and use various channels, such as social media, public events, and community outreach programs, to educate the public, challenge stereotypes, and promote acceptance.
